Welcome to The Healthy Home Blog
Being healthy is SO much more than physical health- real health starts with the spirit and soul that God gave you. As a semi-crunchy Jesus Followin' homeschooling mother of 3 in Southern California, my desire is that my posts educate and empower moms (and/or dads) to have life abundantly. My fitness/health journey began about 15 years ago, and I want to share some of the things that I have learned along the way, and what I am still learning!
WHAT THIS BLOG IS ABOUT:
It's been no easy feat maintaining my fitness during and after 3 pregnancies, but I firmly believe it can be done. Whether you are just starting a fitness routine, or struggling to maintain a healthy weight after giving birth, I have something for you. I like to talk about how to choose an appropriate fitness plan, bust exercise myths & conceptions, and how to make exercise fun.
If there ever was a booming industry, the nutrition industry would be it. With endless recommendations coming from RD's, magazines and doctors, it can be daunting knowing what is the 'right' diet. I write about popular nutrition trends and assess what their strengths and weaknesses are; and help you find the right one for you. I also talk about how to reach your nutrition goals while considering finances, time management, and instilling healthy eating habits in your child from a young age.
We all have stress (in fact, we need it!), but we need to manage it properly in order to function optimally as a parent, spouse, friend, or plain ol' human being. I talk about identifying your stress and methods to putting it in its proper place so you can do the things you love the most.
Massage & Bodywork
Bodywork has been a part of my life for about 10 years now. Many people have a set of beliefs regarding what massage entails, and I like to shed light on different styles of bodywork and how they can benefit you.
All the above doesn't mean diddly squat if you don't actually follow through with good information! But most people don't know how to consistently keep up with their new habits. I have worked with many, many people who have been on the wagon, off the wagon, chasing the wagon, under the wagon, being run over by the wagon- you name it! I can help you recognize where you are in relation to the wagon, and stay on for good!
I have been learning about exercise physiology, nutrition, the politics of nutrition, behavior change, and massage therapy for over ten years. I started going to the gym to lift weights when I was 15 year old, and I just never stopped!
After completing a course of Massage after high school graduation, I went off to college to pursue my goal of a Bachelors in Kinesiolgy. In the meantime, I joined the UCSB triathlon team, gave massage to friends, taught spin classes, and personal trained.
I received my BS in Kinesiology from San Diego State University in 2007. I then had the unique experience of working as a health coach for a large company, educating hundreds of people on exercise, diet and stress management, and how to overcome their personal barriers to their health goals. I still think this was one of most influential seasons of my life.
I returned to IPSB (the International School of Bodywork) in 2010 to fine-tune my massage training. I specialize in Myofascial Release and helping people teach their bodies to relax (which is a hard thing to do in these busy times!).
